DIY Jewelry Rack

So, listen up, here's the story. ("About a little guy who lives in a blue world..." Ha ha! Does anyone else remember that song? The most overplayed song of my high school career, hands down.)

No, but seriously. I've never been a big jewelry person. I mean, I like jewelry. I have some, but I don't ever wear it, unless it's a holiday like Christmas or Fondue Day. (I love The Melting Pot, but if I'm going to spend $100 to cook my own food, I'm dressing up to the nines!!) But mostly it just adorns the inside of my jewelry box.

But now, my sister has currently undertaken a new business venture - selling jewelry. Being the supportive and wonderful sister I am, I now find myself in possession of several (hundred) dollars worth of new jewelry and I'll be damned if I'm not going to wear the stuff. But my small jewelry box seems to have runneth over, so I needed a way to store the stuff that would make it easy to review my treasures and select the pieces to wear that fit my mood.

Something like this:

But one that didn't cost $70. (Seriously... this thing is $69.)

So, I made one. For free (for me, since I had the stuff on hand) and one anyone could make for a few dollars.

I have an old wire shoe rack. You know... the ones with the wire shelves which fall apart all the time and are basically worthless? Yeah, one of these.

It's been sitting (dismantled) in my closet for a bajillion years. So, I took one of the shelves and hung it on the wall.

I know... I'm a genius.

Insta-rack!

The fishhook-backed earrings hang beautifully on the wires.

For the post-backed earrings, I strung a length of ribbon down the side of the rack.

There are small posts at the top and bottom of the rack which were originally used for hooking the shoe rack shelf into the sides, but now they are for holding rings!

To hang the bracelets and the necklaces, I used these clippy hooks I got from IKEA a few months ago. I think they were part of a picture hanging system and I probably paid like $3 for a pack of 40 them.

It has a pincher side and a hooker side. So I pinched the claw to the rack and hung my jewels!

But you could totally not use the hooks and just unfasten your necklaces and refasten them wrapped around one of the bars.

And, there you go!

It was easy, fast and free.

And SO USEFUL!

Hooray!
